    How is pressure calculated in a hydraulic cylinder?​

     

    If you are calculating the pressure you are probably at the design stage of the development of an hydraulic mechanism. You must have already determined, by one means or another, the force acting on the mechanism. Since pressure is, by definition, force divided by area, if the force in Newtons divided by the area of the piston in the hydraulic cylinder being considered, in square millimetres. this will be the pressure required (in Megapascals) to resist that force. It would then be normal for a pressure in excess of that determined to cover contingencies or other known requirements.
